Legal Eagle by Tom Baldwin’ was a column run by The Irish Star in 1990. It was a popular column answering legal questions from the public.  Readers were encouraged ‘IF you have a legal problem, why not write to Legal Eagle, Early and Baldwin Solicitors, 27-28, Marino Mart, Fairview, Dublin 3.

Tom had been put in touch with The Star as they had shown an interest in running such a column. They wanted Early & Baldwin though to handle the column themselves and just submit copy on a weekly basis. While it did not run every week, it became very popular and continued for several months and Tom found it quite entertaining to deal with such varied and sometimes humourous queries. Both Paddy Murray and Terry McGeehan were very helpful with the column and for this we’re grateful.

Tom went on to write for the Sunday Independent on the child abuse scandals associated with Irish swimming and has been quoted throughout the years and used as a source by many newspaper and television journalists.

It is my intention to revisit the Legal Eagle archives and reproduce some of them here. To think  it was over twenty years ago that the column started in it’s original form.  Enjoy.
