#twitterxmassingle …The Power of Twitter
Brenda Drumm, well known to us on Twitter had an idea. What about the Twitter Community coming together to raise money for a deserving Charity by making a Recording to raise the money. She set about this task by simply sending a tweet…
Down to earth mum, Comms Officer, cancer survivor – mymyeloma.ie, Catholic, writer, radio presenter, #twitterxmassinglewas my idea.Views are my own, I think !
Tweet: .. What about recording a Twitter Xmas single / anyone? #xmasnumber1 #xfactor
That was on Saturday 19th November. Brenda was already a popular person on Twitter, so her question was answered quickly by many of her followers. The answer was a resounding YES, let’s do it. How can we help. I myself found out about it shortly afterwards, as I’d missed the original tweet. It had got lost in all those tweeting about XFactor that night. I responded to Anne-Marie Flynn and so became involved in my own small way in helping to promote this splendid idea.
The Charity decided on was to Support Unit 8 of Hollis Street Hospital, which deals with new-born babies and decided on a song….Wintersong.
Over the next few days Twitter came alive and most were tweeting and retweeting about #twitterxmassingle. Brenda was busy, very busy promoting the project and after many interviews with the media she told us all to be at the Westin Hotel on Dublin’s Westmoreland Street only a week later, Sunday 27th November to record the Single. A couple of hundred people must have turned up and I must say a Great day was had by all. The enthusiasm and electricity that came together on the day was nothing short of amazing. At the conclusion we were addressed by Dr Rhona Mahony, the Master of Hollis Street Maternity Hospital just saying… ‘Thank You’ and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. Personally, I felt a sense of community which unfortunately is lacking in society today. My son Tom collected us at the Hotel and on the journey home with my daughter Lisa I can say that both of us felt elated and satisfied that we had both shared in something really Special.
The launch of the #twitterxmassingle will be next Sunday 4th December. What a really great person Brenda Drumm is. What a fantastic group of people the Twitter Community really are. Now, let’s hope and pray that the #twitterxmassingle will be Number 1 this Christmas and that Unit 8 in Hollis Street Hospital will benefit in a real and practical way from the success of this wonderful project inspired by just a single Tweet. Well done to ALL.
